Questions for you, if most people think rock-in-roll started with Elvis, and Elvis was influenced by the Delta Blues and the musicians playing acoustic guitars – how did music transition from acoustic guitar music to electric guitar music in such a burst of energy – what was the ignition/event that started that burst – how could we trace back to one event that changed music from that point to today – who had that kind of effect and what was that special era like - what do people around the world see today that is a direct reminder of that one event?
Jimmy Bryant was my father. He was one of the participants, in an event at a Hollywood club in the late 40’s, which had a huge effect on electric guitar music. After reading the attached documentary summary I think you will have some answers to the above questions. My point is, most everyone has seen and read about big events in history, but what about the smaller event just prior that enabled that big event to have such an impact?
I will tell this story, relive the event, meet the people, show where things happened in the So. California area, share what we have today as a result of that event, film the older guys that were around during that period and let them recount stories, etc. I have some of the great musicians that hung around with my father - Les Paul, James Burton, Albert Lee, etc. offering to be filmed for this.
Let me know what you think about the project by shooting me an email.
I have created a Jimmy Bryant forum where we can post stories and pictures, ask questions, share stuff, even see the earliest and rarest Stratocaster known to exist - you can go there by clicking the link on the left of this page titled "Jimmy Bryant Dicussion Pages (JBDP)".
You can also hear that first Stratocaster on my dads song "Little Rock Getaway" - this recording was cpatured ON THE VERY FIRST TAKE - go to the MySpace link to the left and it will take you to my other site to listen to the song.
Thanks,
JB
